| Noel Clapham Memorial Scholarship (Music) |
| |
In honour and recognition of the contribution made to the Avondale College music department by Dr Noel Clapham funds were raised over many years by the music department to create a memorial scholarship. In 2006 this memorial scholarship was combined with funds bequeathed by Mrs Leoni Dorey to enable the value of the scholarship to be increased to $1,750. The memorial scholarship is awarded to a music student each year who meets the following criteria; |
| |
1. |
The scholarship shall normally be awarded to a student about to commence the third or higher year of a BA, BA/BTch or BA/BBus (secondary) degree, with a major in Music. |
2. |
The scholarship shall be awarded primarily on the basis of individual and / or ensemble performance as demonstrated in performance subjects in the Music major. Potential candidates for the award will be evaluated on the quality of their end-of-semester recitals (by which they are assessed in most performance subjects), and on the quality of their work in regular performance lessons. |
3. |
The award of the scholarship will be subject to good academic grades in other components of the Music major, and satisfactory results in non-Music subjects of the degree. |
4. |
The nominating committee may also consider: |
| |
- Candidates’ overall contribution to the musical life of Avondale College |
| |
- Other scholarships / awards (if any) held by the potential candidates. The committee may give preference to candidates holding no other scholarships / awards. |
5. |
The nomination committee reserves the right not to award the scholarships in any given year. |
6. |
The scholarship is intended to assist in the defrayal of Avondale tuition fees. It will therefore be credited to the student’s fee account at the College, and cannot be redeemed for cash, in whole or in part. Normally the scholarship will be awarded in two equal instalments, one in each semester of the year to which the award pertains. |
7. |
The scholarship is conditional on the student’s continued enrolment in a BA, BA/BTch or BA/BBus (secondary degree with major in Music) in each semester to which the scholarship pertains. The scholarship may be deferred with approval of the Dean of the Faculty of Arts for a maximum of two consecutive semesters. |
8. |
Continuance of the scholarship is contingent on satisfactory academic progress. |
9. |
The scholarship shall be awarded only once to the same student. |
