Stanley and Dorothy Paterson (Business and Music)
 

In 2002, Stanley and Dorothy Paterson bequeathed an amount of money enabling the Avondale Foundation to create two annual scholarships, of $4,000 each, to one student each from the following faculties;

 
Arts – Music Department
Business
 
Music Scholarship

The music scholarship is awarded to a BA, BA/BTch or BA/BBus music major.

 

The scholarship criteria and regulations are as follows;

 
1.
    The scholarship will be awarded to a music major student who has completed the first or second year of a BA degree, or the first, second or third year of a BA/BTch or BA/BBus degree.)
2.
    The student is expected to carry a full-time academic load of at least 15 credit points in the year of study for which the scholarship applies.
3.
    The scholarship is awarded for the academic year which follows the year in which criteria 4, 5 and 6 have been met.
4.
    Nominations for this scholarship are based on academic performance in a given calendar year.  In that year the nominee will have met the following requirements:
 
    Undertaken a full-time study load of at least 15 credit points in each semester
 
    Passed all subjects
 
    Achieved an average grade of at least 65% across all music subjects studied in (the reference year)
5.
    The scholarship will be awarded to the eligible student with the highest average grade across all music subjects studied by the student in the reference year.
6.
    The student will reflect the values and expectations outlined in the Avondale Handbook, exhibit reliability, diligence, honesty and a positive attitude to work and studies.  Failure to maintain these values may lead to forfeiture of the scholarship.
7.
    In special circumstances, the Dean of the Faculty of Arts may consider a request for a deferral of the scholarship.
8.
    The scholarship may be awarded to the same student more than once.

Business Scholarship

The scholarship criteria and regulations are as follows;

 
1.
    The recipient should be a full-time 2nd or 3rd year Bachelor of Business student on a regular academic load.  For BBus students completing a double degree their 4th year of study shall also qualify.
2.
    The award shall be based primarily on academic achievement and to be nominated the student should exhibit above average academic performance in business and related subjects (credit or higher) in the year immediately preceding the award.
3.
    All else being equal, students with a greater number of business subjects will be given selection preference.
4.
    The financial circumstances of the students will be taken into account when deciding between candidates of similar standing.
5.
    The student should be continuing for the full year of study in which the scholarship has been granted.
6.
    The student will exhibit diligence and a positive attitude to studies and where applicable, quality of service in work experience.  The student’s relationship to peers, lecturers and College personnel will be taken into account.  The student will show exemplary citizenship, presentation and professionalism.  Failure to maintain these values may lead to forfeiture of the scholarship.
7.
